Tata Power Delhi Distribution Organized Its First Urja Arpan Conclave

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading utility service provider to the populace of over 7 million in North Delhi, organized the first edition of Urja Arpan Conclave on the occasion of Earth Day on 22nd April 23. The objective of the conclave was to promote responsible and efficient electricity conservation by individuals and organizations to mitigate adverse impacts on the climate resulting from increased energy consumption. Tata Power-DDL is working closely with global NGOs, premier academic institutions, and customers to create behavioral change among society at large, especially the youth, and is supported by TERI as Knowledge Partner.

The event was intended to bring together various stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and experts from across the energy sector to discuss key issues and challenges, and to identify solutions that can help accelerate the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. The Urja Arpan aims to create awareness among 19 lac consumers on how 100 units saved can lead to saving 0f 79 KG CO2 which is the job of 3 matured trees. The aim of the movement is to take a pledge to create 1 lac climate-conscious citizens to save to provide momentum towards this saving in Delhi/NCR so that it can become a model to be replicated elsewhere.

The first edition of the conclave saw active collaboration and participation from TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), institutions like IIT Delhi, FMS – Delhi, SRCC, IHM, experts from D2O, SAREP, GGGI, Florence Regulatory School, CEEW, AEEE, Centre for Policy Research, etc., along with special participation from Delegation European Union to India. The first Urja Arpan Conclave witnessed conversations and discussions by eminent experts like Mr. Abhay Bakre - DG, BEE, Dr. Vibha Dhawan - DG, TERI, and many others on the initiatives on Climate change at the Global and National levels and the strategy that is required to secure a sustainable future for the country. The program was also live-streamed and 2500 audiences participated through an online platform.

The first-panel discussion shed light on the importance of sustainable energy practices and the contribution of the Energy Sector towards Sustainability which was thought-provoking with viewpoints shared by an established set of panelists i.e. Mr. Milind Deore – Secretary, BEE, Dr. Abhijit Abhyankar - Dean Infra, IIT, Delhi, and Mr. Rakesh Goyal - Chief of Party, SAREP along with Mr. Ganesh Srinivasan - CEO, Tata Power-DDL.

The second session was a stimulating discussion on the contribution of youth for sustainability with well-recognized sustainability specialists i.e. Mr. Edwin Koekkoek – Energy and Climate Action, Delegation European Union to India, Mr. Kamal Kant Pant, Principal and Secretary at Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Pusa, New Delhi, Mr. Prashant Sahgal, Principal, Adarsh Public School, Ms. Swati Jha, Head of Programs, United Way of Delhi, Ms. Prachi - Cool the Globe (youth influencer). Student volunteers from prestigious schools and colleges took the pledge to save the environment.

Speaking on the first-of-its-kind initiative Mr. Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited said: “The Urja Arpan initiative is in line with our brand philosophy of “Sustainable is Attainable” overall welfare of environment and society. With this industry-first initiative, we are not only raising awareness among industry stakeholders and consumers but also showcasing our efforts towards building a cleaner and greener future. With this belief, Tata Power-DDL through its various initiatives has been promoting sustainable living by endorsing renewable energy adoption, energy conservation, and efficient power distribution methods.”

Behavioral Demand Response Program for customers of Tata Power-DDL was also launched at the conclave, through which consumers can help in managing peak electricity demand and ease the strain on the electricity grid to ensure optimum utilization of electrical network. 

The event successfully created awareness about the need for collaborative action among all stakeholders toward a greener tomorrow.
